CEO at May Mobility
Edwin Olson is founder and CEO of May Mobility, an Ann Arbor startup developing safe autonomous passenger vehicles. He earned his PhD from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2008 for his work in robust robot mapping. Prior to starting May Mobility, he was a core contributor to MIT's 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge vehicle and a Principle Investigator on Ford's Next Generation Vehicle Program before becoming Co-Director for Autonomous Driving Development at Toyota Research Institute.
Dr. Olson is also a Associate Professor at the University of Michigan in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science department where he leads the APRIL robotics laboratory. In 2010, he led the winning team in the MAGIC 2010 competition; in 2012 he was named one of Popular Science's "Brilliant Ten", and in 2013, he was awarded the DARPA Young Faculty Award. He is one of the original creators of LCM and AprilTags, two software libraries which are in widespread use throughout academia and industry.
