Let’s talk about Test Driven Development

Agile delivery within technology teams is discussed in many women's forums but Test Driven Development, which is the core building block is rarely spoken of. In fact, many. Only 20% of all Automotive software teams attempt at bringing agility to their code. Let's have an interactive discussion on why that is.

20 years after Test Driven Development was discovered or re-discovered, it still remains a challenge for agile teams to adopt this methodology within their software engineering groups. Let’s discuss the benefits and the steps to take a test first approach. Let’s also address the reasons why TDD can be difficult. It’s not all doom and gloom - there are some things we can do to make Test Driven Development second nature to our development teams.

Shifting into the Driver’s Seat: How the Automotive CIO can be a Force for Change
  • Nick Parrotta - Chief Digital and Information Officer, Harman International

Digital transformation is revolutionizing every aspect of business — including the transportation industry, where technology is upending the traditional perspective on what it means to be a highly mobile society. As automotive companies navigate this shifting landscape, CIOs are the technology leaders driving digital transformation within their companies — whether it’s strategy, user experience, analytics, operations or cybersecurity. CIOs have been given a level of empowerment and autonomy to push boundaries, drive insights and leverage experiences (cloud, mobility, connectivity, data and security) to accelerate innovation in the automotive industry. But must they go further?

This keynote will address opportunities for automotive CIOs to transcend their traditional roles and drive collaboration, co-innovation and customer value across the automotive industry.

Leapfroggers & game-changers: How key OEMs bring connected mobility to market in 6 months and at a fraction of typical investments. Are you keeping up?
  • Jeff Jorge - Executive Leadership, LogiGo Automotive

So here we are. A time when the last screen vying for humanity’s attention has yet to be truly and fully conquered.

The list of impediments is long. And it stares back at you – the OEM or Tier 1 systems integrator. It is a familiar list; a litany of urgent frustrations on the road to deploying market-leading connected mobility/infotainment systems:

  • Concept-to-production lead times not fast enough
  • Budget overruns due to exorbitant development funding needs and high piece price production systems
  • “Me too” functionality in a fast-evolving, fiercely competitive consumer market
  • Unaddressed concerns over data ownership and privacy
  • Lack of true monetization of the current mobility ecosystem – and poor preparation for the future thereof.
  • And many more.

In this session, attendees will walk away with actionable, production-based insights and methodologies to addressing the sector’s most common challenges in deploying connected mobility infotainment systems, including how to:

  • Lead the sector - instead of imitate the competition.
  • Better anticipate the future – and extract leading indicators to winning feature and system functionality ahead of the market.
  • Beat the market with *truly* useful functionality - instead of being second (or third or fourth…)-to-market
  • Stop over-spending – and begin to draw real value from investments at a fair market price.
  • Attain real ownership over data and privacy – instead of relinquishing them away.
  • Accomplish what no other OEM in North America has done to date – across multiple market, regulatory and monetization dimensions.

Designing automotive silicon with modern system architectures in mind
  • Daniel Sisco - Director Automotive Systems and Innovation, Renesas

Resulting from the ever-increasing levels of system complexity and interconnectedness, Tier2 chip providers are driven to design, test, and market their products with an increased focus on automotive systems and system integration. Modern automotive architectures and integration requirements drive design choices at the chip level, such as interconnect optimizations, trade-offs between generic or specific computing power and IPs, and optimized cache and pipelines chains. Without strong system level knowledge, making smart SoC design choices for modern automotive applications will become increasingly difficult. This talk will explore a unique approach to system level thinking for silicon design, and explain the importance of such an approach.
