INTERVIEW WITH ERICSSON

We asked Category Sponsor Ericsson why they are looking forward to TU-Automotive Awards 2020.

Ericsson are proud sponsors of the Rising Star of the Year – under 40 Award.

INTERVIEW WITH ERICSSON

What is Ericsson most looking forward to about the TU-Automotive Awards?

Great event to connect, and network with Automotive Industry leaders

Why did you choose the Rising Star of the Year - Under 40 award to sponsor?

A company's success is determined by its great people. Great people inspire and lead others to grow to its best potential. We find it important to promote a person that makes an evident impact on our industry, especially in times of transport transformation.

In your opinion, why are award ceremonies such at that of TU-Awards so important?

It highlights key innovations and a very valuable indication of where the industry is heading in the near future.

ERICSSON IS ALSO A SPONSOR OF TU-AUTOMOTIVE DETROIT. CAN YOU GIVE OUR AUDIENCE A SNEAK PEEK AT WHAT YOU PLAN ON SHOWCASING?

I guess we can push for the “Network Aware Car”. Many OEMs are facing the challenge of delivering a better user experience, now and in the future. With network aware connected services and seamless connectivity, the OEM has new tools to improve and execute on this objective.

Users expect a modern vehicle to have all connected services work seamlessly, and there is a growing number of applications being included in the recently launched vehicles. For examples does some of the in-vehicle services require a real-time connection to give the best experience.  OEMs are also looking to have the car to stay at its best under its full lifetime, with e.g. the software in the vehicle kept up to date, without getting the car into the service garages. One solution to this objective is to deliver the upgrades as software over the air upgrade, (SOTA’s) over the cellular networks.

The transformation of moving connectivity to the core of the cars are influencing the telecommunication and the automotive industry. The services included in the car will drive an increased data traffic and will require both higher availability and higher quality compared to what is demanded today to function optimally and drive an improved customer experience.

The services do also add a further stress to the networks, and innovative solutions for e.g. prioritization and optimization of the networks might have a great impact of the cost effectiveness and reliability for the services that the OEMs are to deliver to their end-customers.  As one examples, as vehicles are typically driven only 40 mins (on average) and if the User has requested live connected services. The OEM has to define prioritizations for the supported services and the available bandwidth needs to be managed to meet expectations.
